Emerging Garden
At the corner of N. 2nd Street & DeKalb Street

This garden is a collaborative project with the Emerging Leaders group from United Way of Marathon County. Construction of 35 raised beds took place in mid June, 2013. A HUGE THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped out - we couldn't have done it without each and every one of you! Each bed is 12ft x 12ft, providing ample growing space for our gardeners. A fence and shed were purchased for critter control and storage of tools and supplies for renters to use in cultivating their garden plots. Hoses are installed for easy maintenance of plots. Visit the "Rent a Plot" tab to download an application.
Bridge Community Health Clinic Garden

The project is called the Bridge Community Health Clinic Garden (the garden) and it is an urban community garden of approximately 8000 SF (.18 acre) in an east-side residential neighborhood in Wausau, along Second Street and adjacent to the Bridge Community Health Clinic.
With funding and volunteers from the community, the garden was created in the spring of 2011. Due to the Bridge Community Health Clinic expansion plan beginning in spring 2013, the Bridge Community Health Clinic Garden was redone and reopened in spring 2014, down the hill from its former location. The land donated by Bridge Community Health Clinic was cleared and beds were created with the help of the Home Depot Team and community volunteers. 17 beds and a compost areas were constructed. A fence and shed were purchased for critter control and storage of tools and supplies for renters to use in cultivating their garden plots. During the 2014 growing season,, of the 17 plots total, 14 were rented by community members in which over half are low-income. Three plots are used to grow a wide variety of produce for donation to the Neighbor’s Place and Marathon County Hunger Coalition.

East Towne Community Garden

East Towne Community Garden, on Wausau's east side, was constructed on June 12, 2012 and covers an area of 60ft x 115ft which allows for the building of 14 raised beds. A 6ft fence is erected around the perimeter of the garden to help with critter control. A medium size shed is on site for the safe keeping of the garden tools and supplies. During the 2014 growing season, out of the 14 raised beds, five were reserved as community plots where harvest will be donated to the Neighbor's Place and Marathon County Hunger Coalition. The other ten plots were rented out to community members who planted and grew their own fruits and vegetables.
Wausau Urban Community Gardens will continue to grow. The 2015 growing season was a wonderful success with over 750 lbs of produce donated to local community members in need! Classes on gardening basics, family fitness & cooking what you grow helped to educate gardeners on how to live a healthy lifestyle.
